With their introspective lyricism and captivating, warm sound, the Benjamín Gísli Trio immediately welcomes the audience into their music. The debut album Line of Thought pays tribute to the Nordic jazz tradition, drawing on the lyrical melodies of Bill Evans, the melancholic playing of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, and the freedom of Carla Bley.
Recorded at Sigur Rós’s former studio Sundlauginn in Iceland, the trio seeks inspiration from and reflects on the minimalism and classical sound of the legendary Icelandic band. Beautiful and evocative melodies added to rich harmonies drifting complex rhythms makes up the trios Nordic and cinematic sound. The album features six original tracks composed by Benjamín Gísli, as well as their interpretation of Carla Bley’s, Ida Lupino. The songs convey an array of visceral emotions— from emptiness to hope thus switching the mundane narrative to something inspiring and uplifting.
